Scent App by HG ("Scent App") cares about your privacy. The app helps you organize the fragrances you own, learn what each one makes you feel, and get personalized recommendations. This page explains what data the app collects and why.
The fragrance details you enter (brand, name, notes), your personal ratings, wear logs, profile information, and any bottle/box/label photos you capture when adding a fragrance are stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data is not sent to our servers.
When you add a fragrance from photos, the bottle/box/label images you select are sent only to the on-device Apple Intelligence model (Foundation Models), which extracts details such as brand, name, concentration, target audience, family, and notes from the images. This processing happens entirely on your device — your photos are never sent to a server or a third-party AI service. Your recommendation engine, Fragrance DNA, and insights are likewise generated entirely on-device through deterministic logic.
When an official website is detected for a fragrance, you can use the "Update Product Information from Website" feature to fetch that page over HTTPS. The page content is passed only to the on-device AI model, and only facts explicitly stated on the page are used to update your entry. This feature is entirely optional and only runs when you trigger it.
Your collection, ratings, wear logs, profile, and photos are automatically synced across your devices via your own private iCloud/CloudKit database, tied only to your Apple ID. This data is not stored on HGCO servers and is not accessible to us; it is governed by Apple's own privacy practices. You can also export your collection as a portable .scentbackup file (optionally password-protected) from Settings → Data & AI → Backup, or import one on another device; this file is shared only the way you choose (AirDrop, Files, etc.) and is never seen by us.
Scent Premium subscriptions are managed through Apple's StoreKit 2 (monthly, six-month, and yearly options). Your payment information is processed by Apple and is never seen or stored by us.
The app contains no ads, no third-party advertising SDKs, and no tracking analytics.
You can delete your fragrance, rating, wear log, or photo records at any time from within the app. Removing the app from your device deletes local data; you can remove synced iCloud data from your device's iCloud settings.
Scent App is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from users under 13.
